How Jomo works

Jomo is a crowdfunding and fulfilment platform built specifically for independent board game creators.

For creators

Jomo lets you take a game from an idea in your head to physical copies in backers' hands, with guardrails at every step:

  1. Build your community — before you ask anyone for money, publish dev-log posts and let followers opt in to updates. Followers convert to backers at a much higher rate than cold traffic.
  2. Apply for crowdfunding — when your game is ready, submit an application with your reward tiers, cost breakdown and funding goal. The Jomo team reviews it and approves or gives feedback.
  3. Run your campaign — once approved your crowdfund page goes live. Backers pledge against your tiers; their cards are saved but not charged yet.
  4. Get funded — when the campaign closes, Jomo runs the batch charge. If the goal is met, the project moves into production. If not, all saved payment methods are discarded and no one is charged.
  5. Receive payouts in stages — Jomo releases funds in two tranches. The first covers the creative work: art, writing, editing, layout. The second is released only once the game is press-ready and covers printing and distribution. The split is based on your approved cost breakdown, not a fixed percentage.
  6. Ship to backers — Jomo collects physical-tier backer addresses on your behalf and gives you a structured shipping API to plug into your fulfilment workflow.

For backers

Backing a Jomo project is designed to be as safe as possible:

  • Your card is not charged immediately. Jomo saves your payment method when you pledge, and only charges it if the project's funding goal is met.
  • Creators can't take the money and run. Funds are released in two stages. The first tranche covers creative work; the second covers printing and distribution and is only released once the game is press-ready. If a project is stalling and seems unlikely to reach print, Jomo can issue partial refunds to backers from the funds held for printing.
  • No FOMO by design. Jomo campaigns don't use countdown timers or artificial scarcity. Backers pledge when they're ready. If a campaign closes before you find it, you can follow the project and be notified of any future runs. The platform is built around giving people the information they need to make a calm decision, not pressuring them into a fast one.
  • Shipping is handled separately. Once the game is manufactured, Jomo emails you to collect your shipping address. You're only asked for an address when the creator is ready to ship.
  • You get tracking. When your order ships you receive an email with the carrier and tracking number.

Fees

Jomo deducts a 2.5% platform fee and Stripe's processing fees from the gross pledges before paying out to the creator. The exact percentages are shown on your application page before you submit.
